Karen Flannery

What is your background in childcare?

I worked with First Grade Students as an ED Tech in a private, Christian school in Okinawa, Japan from 1988 to 1994. Upon returning to the U. S., I continued my assistant teaching career working with special needs children at the High School level until 1997.  I continued my work with special needs children when I settled in Maine in 1997; working with the Spurwink school system at the High School level.  I started my In-Home daycare in 2000 and began Cradle Inn Daycare Center in 2013.

Why do you like working with children?

I believe that children are our most important resource and deserve the very best opportunities to develop their natural skills.  It is very rewarding to see how proud a child is of themselves when they realize they remember or accomplish a task they are learning. Also, it is so warming and a great joy when a child says “I love you” and gives you a hug.

What are some of your other interest/hobbies?

I like to fish, hunt partridge, garden, read and truly enjoy “boot camp” (exercising).  I also love golf and being with my family.
