What is your background in childcare?

I worked with First Grade Students as an ED Tech in a private, Christian school in Okinawa, Japan from 1988 to 1994. Upon returning to the U. S., I continued my assistant teaching career working with special needs children at the High School level until 1997.  I continued my work with special needs children when I settled in Maine in 1997; working with the Spurwink school system at the High School level.  I started my In-Home daycare in 2000 and began Cradle Inn Daycare Center in 2013.

Why do you like working with children?

I believe that children are our most important resource and deserve the very best opportunities to develop their natural skills.  It is very rewarding to see how proud a child is of themselves when they realize they remember or accomplish a task they are learning. Also, it is so warming and a great joy when a child says “I love you” and gives you a hug.

What are some of your other interest/hobbies?

I like to fish, hunt partridge, garden, read and truly enjoy “boot camp” (exercising).  I also love golf and being with my family.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND IN CHILDCARE?

When my three sons were small, it was important to me to spend as much time at home with the as possible during their developmental years.  While they were young, I had a small in-home daycare allowing me to do just that.  As they became older, I still continued with my daycare for 20 years because of my love of kids.  For the next 10 years, I expanded my in-home facility and worked with my husband.  Together, we operated Shining Stars Home Daycare.  I am thrilled to bring 30 years experience working with multi-age children to Cradle Inn.

WHY DO YOU LIKE WORKING WITH CHILDREN?

Family has always been important to me.  Whenever I have children in my care, I always consider them part of my “extended” family.  It is always my intention to provide any child with warm, loving care.  The exciting challenge is to expand each one’s learning abilities  Each child is different and every one amazes me with their continuing growth.  It is important to me to be a part of this emotional and educational journey from an early age. There is so much excitement in a child’s eyes when seeing or hearing something for the first time.  I love watching kids grow through different stages of life whether it be an an infant, toddler, preschooler or older.  Each stage of growing is so unique.  Numerous hugs and smiles often reinforce to me that I am successful in molding each child’s daycare experience in a positive way.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR OTHER INTERESTS/HOBBIES?

Besides kids, my other interests include camping and traveling to new places.  In addition to that, spending time with family and friends makes me happy.
